Cook

In short I am a food and wine fiend. I love cooking and find it a hugely soothing and meditative thing.

I actually don't just love cooking, I love shopping for food, flavour matching, watching others cook, talking about food, the culture surrounding food and how it is such an integral part of connecting with others, and super importantly; how it nourishes us.

I grew up on an incredible vineyard in New Zealand, then spent a number of years in Italy as a child where food and wine appreciation is just life. The Sweet life. Or La Dolce Vita.

Am super lucky as well (or perhaps that is part of fate) in that Mr Delicious is also a massive foodie and so a lot of chat in our house is about food and preparing it. It's a big part of romance! Our daughter is already (at 3) a bit of a super taster as well. I don't believe in different foods for children and so she is already very aware of how to make basic foods, and she will request parmiggiano on her risotto and regularly eats all the foods we do.

Hope you enjoy this collection of favourite things I have loved to make or eat or which has made life (or that for my family) that little bit more "Dolce".

About Maria does Delicious.

This site was born when I was living in Italy. It was just me wanting to record all the places I loved, delicious things tasted or cooked and experiences had -and it literally started as an email list.

The first was 'A guide for Roma: Maria style'. It was a combination of tips from my Roman friends, a Roman ex-boyfriend, my old boss (total foodie from Naples), a few obsessed foodies and me!

I passed it on to a friend, who passed it on to another, and then I soon was getting requests from all over the world for other tips from "people like us (PLU's)" who wanted to know where to go, eat, stay, shop and most importantly dine!....So Maria does Delicious was born!
